Negotiations Report: Heather Dunn
Form sent out with screen shots of the contract. These will take a few minutes to fill out and are a valuable source of information that will guide the negotiations team in their future meetings. Please fill these out no later than 4:00 on March 4th.
Big change is Admin wants to take out extracurricular piece from contract which would mean that as a union we would no longer have input. It would be Board Policy instead.
Tom Gigstad input: It would be a big mistake to give up TVEA control of this for this specific conversation see Heather.
Member input: It would be scary to give up power over this. Could unfunded sports’ coaches negotiate individually with the board with a representative from MEA? Could we rewrite this part of the contract so that we would still have input, but unfunded sports could have paid coaches? Could coaches get paid more with more time in? Starting coaches get paid less and those that have stayed for several years, get paid more.
Salaries proposals 3% for next two years or 3% for next three years.
Maintenance of Standards an important part of our contract that we want to keep.
Personnel File: Any material more than 5 years old can be removed at the request of the teacher unless the material shows a pattern.
Input from Tom Gigstad our MEA support out of Msla I would recommend you not delete this. Any negative action more than five years old should be considered stale. You have already made an exception for those that may document a continuing problem. If the problem was successfully addressed at the time, why should it be around to potentially haunt a teacher years later? If their concern is about evaluations, then you can certainly clarify that this does not apply to formal evaluations. Everyone is encouraged to read their personnel file. Becky Evins has these in her office.
Evaluations Educator Performance Appraisal System EPAS more information on OPI website.
We cannot continue to use the evaluation form that is part of our contract. There is a new teacher evaluation 78 page document from OPI. The clusters are what you are evaluated on . We will use this document for 2014-2015. Lots of the wording has to do with district policy. You only need to be unsatisfactory in one domain to be put on a plan of improvement in that domain. We have a chance to evaluate and tweak it a bit for the future so it works best for us. The intention is for the evaluation to help teachers improve.
How are we going to evaluate this?
We need 12 people.
4 domains
3 people on each domain one from each building.
4 people needed from each building plus an administrator on each domain. This committee will need to meet several times throughout the school year to evaluate these and give input and make the evaluation work for us.
The following representatives will bring information to staff meetings and recruit people for committee.
Chris will take the high school stack.
Angela will take the middle school stack.
Corinna will take the elementary stack.
