MEA shortfall due to discrepancy between our 10 month withdrawl vs. MEAs 11 month withdrawl. This is now corrected and in Eureka we will be taking out dues 11 months instead of 10. Less money each month, but the same total.
Should we increase local dues? They are now $25. Should we up this a bit? Dave James moved that we increase the amount and set up a committee to investigate how much. Interested in being on the committee: Dave James, Heather Dunn, Stephanie McDuffie. Once the information is gathered a vote will be put out.
Contract Language: Aaron Fortner reports: team was under the impression that things were all wrapped up. Found out that the sticking point is that we have no MOU regarding payment for presenting in the district. At one point $19 x 3 was offered. What do we think? Negotiating team will meet and come up with a proposal.
Administrative increase: ours isn’t easy to compare to theirs They got a 4% but not on the base. They stayed in the matrix. This is as clear to me as mud, but the bottom line is there was not an outrageous increase.
November 4 PIR Lunch Planning: Heather will help organize this event with help of classified staff. FYI: Hosting a high school vball tourney that day.
Loree Campbell Grievance: Dave read Loree’s summary and perspective of the situation to us. Article #13 is an issue. Was this followed when the jr. high ethnic studies class was changed?
Negotiations in the future change the word may to will get input from other teachers.
. Dave James read a letter addressed to MEA that Loree had written since her other job kept her from being able to be present at the meeting. The letter addressed the history of the grievance filed in the spring of 2011. The letter also covered the issue of changing curriculum without having a committee of people giving input. (See Article #13 of our collective bargaining agreement) Was this followed when the jr. high ethnic studies class was changed?Loree's question for the union was will we support this grievance. Article #13 was read aloud and then some discussion followed. The use of the word "may" in the language instead of will or must was discussed. This is wording we will want to change in upcoming negotiations. A few people voiced the opinion that this would not be a grievance that would be won so it may not be a good use of funds. A couple other people stressed the point that administration has made changes to curriculum in the past without input from certified staff. Do we want to continue to let this happen? Due to time constraints it was decided that the discussion needed to be wrapped up. A motion was made and seconded to vote via Survey Monkey. the vote on Survey Monkey.
